Story: The Dawn of the Drow

The Drow are Elven descendants who live beneath the surface of the ground in the North-Eastern Wildlands.  Since the first Great Invitation they have been a difficult problem for the Kingdoms of the Elves.

When the dreams of the Most High came to the peoples of the Elves, they were divided. While most chose to turn and embrace wisdom, some did not. A resulting civil war began and those of the Elven folk who continued to side with the Circle of Kings and their Legions were driven into the North-Eastern Wildlands.  The surface of the land there is harsh and difficult to navigate. Deep, freezing winters begin early fall and end in the late spring, resulting in a very short, temperate season.

But the Elves who were banished soon discovered vast underground chambers in the area and they descended beneath the surface. In darkness and isolation, the corruption of their hearts with anger and hatred consumed them and they became the Drow Race - servants of the Circle of Kings and mortal enemies of the Elven Kingdoms.

Because of their longevity and intelligence they have developed vast, sophisticated cultures and cities beneath the ground, and capable armies led by powerful warriors, clerics and wizards. But, as slaves to the Dark Magic of the Undead, they have not been as unified as they could be, constantly struggling internally for power and position.
